Frequently asked questions
How do I set a ringtone on iPhone?
iOS doesn't let apps set your ringtone, so the last step happens in Apple's free GarageBand app. Tonecut shows these steps too, in Settings › How to set a ringtone.
- In Tonecut, tap Ringtone to create it. It’s saved in the Files app, in On My iPhone › Tonecut.
- Open GarageBand. Touch and hold its icon, then tap Create New Audio Recording.
- Tap the Tracks button, then the Loops button at the top right. Tap Files › Browse items from the Files app and pick your ringtone in On My iPhone › Tonecut.
- Touch and hold the file, then drag it all the way to the left.
- Tap ▾ at the top left, then My Songs. Touch and hold the new song, then tap Share › Ringtone › Export.
- Tap Use sound as › Standard Ringtone.
GarageBand makes ringtones of up to 30 seconds and offers to shorten a longer one.
Where are my files?
They're in the app's Library tab, and in the Files app under On My iPhone › Tonecut. You can share or save them anytime.
Do you upload my audio?
Never. Everything runs on your device — your audio never leaves your phone.
What formats are supported?
You can open MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG and Opus files, plus the audio track of MP4 and iPhone .MOV videos. Exports are MP3 or WAV — more export formats are coming.
What does Tonecut cost?
Tonecut is a paid app — one payment on the App Store and it’s yours. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. The current price is shown on the store page for your country.
I bought it before — do I pay again?
No. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID, so Tonecut reinstalls for free on any device you sign into — and on everyone in your Family Sharing group.
